Mississippi State football recruiting visitors list, notes and updates: January 23-25, 2015

The Bulldogs host a large contingency of out-of-state commits and prospects on campus this weekend.

Brad Barr-USA TODAY Sports

Earlier today we gave you a fairly extensive look at where some prized remaining Mississippi State targets are visiting this weekend, but it's important not to forget all of the committed recruits who will be on campus in Starkville this weekend as well.  Where last weekend had a Mississippi flavor it it with a lot of in-state talent coming in to visit, this weekend will be more of an out-of-state weekend, with a lot of State's Alabama commits leading a small but important group of visitors for January 23rd.  Here is the list of expected weekend visitors as well as a few notes on what to watch over the weekend (via 247sports):

Current MSU commits visiting

Harrison Moon OL Signal Mtn, TN 3-star
Anfernee Mullins DE Aliceville, AL 3-star
Alec Murphy RB Nixa, MO 3-star
Justin Johnson WR Birmingham, AL 3-star
Kendell Jones DE Pinson, AL 3-star
Darryl Williams OL Bessemer, AL 3-star
Nick Tiano QB Chattanooga, TN 3-star

Non-MSU committed visitors

Lamar Jackson QB Boynton Beach, FL 4-star
Daron Payne DT Birmingham, AL 5-star
Notes for the weekend
  • So first to address why Daron Payne's name is scratched out above: all we it was left open as to whether or not Payne would visit this weekend.  We saw hints that he might; however, teammate Keith Mixon cleared things up as he himself headed over this afternoon:

  • We also got some more clarity this afternoon as to where MSU target TD Moton would be visiting this weekend.  This morning we guestimated that he might not visit anywhere this weekend.  That seems to have changed, as TD tweeted that he'll be visiting Missouri this weekend.  I still think that State is in the lead for his services, but we'll just have to wait and see how he likes Mizzou.  Another situation to watch will be what happens with Daylon Mack and Texas A&M.  A&M may be interested in Moton if Mack falls through, and Mack is visiting rival Texas this weekend.

  • With Payne not coming this weekend, that leaves the Bulldogs with one lone non-MSU prospect coming in: Louisville QB commit Lamar Jackson.  I don't know where State stands with him, but I'm not expecting any big news following his visit unless something crazy just happens.  With this being recruiting, that is always a possibility.
  • As always, we'll keep an eye out for big updates for you all throughout the weekend and report them as we see them.
