Could Changes Be on the Way for College Football Playoff after Sluggish New Years Eve Ratings

2

The Sports Business Journal reported Monday that with the final numbers coming in from the New Years Six games , ESPN is pushing the College Football Playoff to move next year's semifinal games from December 31 to January 2. All three of the games, the Peach, Fiesta, and Orange Bowls, experienced a significant drop in their ratings from last year. Only the Peach Bowl was played on December 31 both seasons, and even then, the game went from a nighttime slot to a morning slot on a day many people had to work.. While the New Year's Eve games struggled, the games played on January 1 showed growth over the previous year with the two semifinals holding the distinction as the two most-viewed cable programs in history until the National Championship game took the top spot. The College Football Playoff is against the move.
