REPORT: Malik Newman Will Commit to Mississippi State

Gary Parrish of CBS reported today that 5-star point guard and Jackson, MS native Malik Newman will commit to Mississippi State on Friday at 12 PM CST.

The report gives quotes from anonymous sources and coaches:

Two coaches simply said Newman-to-Mississippi State is "done."

Another coach added: "We're still trying ... but I think MSU is the place."

It has to be acknowledged that Newman is not committed yet, only expected to be, and anything can happen in the shady world of recruiting. But, if all works out right, this is an enormous get for new coach Ben Howland and begins his tenure with MSU on a very good note.

Malik Newman is the 5th best player and the #1 point guard in the class of 2015 according to 247 Sports. Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, Kansas, and NC State were among his other college choices.
