Mississippi State Softball Headed to Lafayette Regional

The Bulldogs are making their fourth consecutive appearance in NCAA play.

For the fourth season in a row, Mississippi State softball has been selected for play in the NCAA tournament, and the Bulldogs will remain fairly close to home as they head to Lafayette, Louisiana, for regional play at Louisiana for the second-straight season.

The Bulldogs will open play against Baylor, a team who finished 38-15 overall and 12-5 in Big 12 play.   Baylor also played well in neutral site games, posting a 9-3 record. The Bulldogs took on the Bears last season in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Softball Classic.

In the other opening matchup, regional host Louisiana will take on Weber State.

For the Bulldogs, the challenge is simple.  In the last three seasons, the Bulldogs have dropped the opening contest, won their first elimination game and dropped their second.  If the Bulldogs hope to advance out of the regional, a win in the opening contest Friday will almost be a must.
