The last couple of weeks have been busy for Madison Harrison. After transferring to Mississippi State from Kansas, the new Bulldog snagged the Tallahassee Open singles title Monday. The tournament is part of the 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Summer Circult.
To snag the title, Harrison had to knock off four of the region's top eight seeds over three days, and she picked up five wins total. In the round of 16, Harrison went the distance in defeating No. 4 seed Emma Kurtz 6-2, 3-6, 1-0(7). That set up a matchup with Florida State's Emily Fanning, and Harrison moved past the fifth seed 6-4, 6-4.
In the semifinals, Harrison squared off with the top-seeded Maci Epstein of Virginia, and she had to battle back from a set down to win 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(9).
Harrison breezed through the final against No. 3 seed Yukako Noi, an Atlantic 10 First Team selection in 2013 and 2014 who now plays for Florida State. Harrison took the championship with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Harrison's success extended to doubles play as well. She partnered with Christiana Brigante of Oklahoma to reach the semifinals.
