If Mississippi State fans have taken a look down the schedule, the month of October will be a fairly boring one in Bulldog land. September bring the fun of kicking of the season and some big games. October starts with one, and by the end of the month, Bulldog fans may have more fun at Halloween parties than at the last few Mississippi State games of the month.
In that month, the Bulldogs play host to the Troy Trojans, the game picked here as the next to last exciting game for the Bulldogs this season. Yes, these Trojans slapped one of the worst losses on the Bulldogs in team history over a decade ago. Yes, these Trojans almost took the Bulldogs down in Troy in 2012. However, where these two teams have gone since that time gives us a matchup that will probably be lacking in any type of excitement.
Mississippi State and Troy last met in 2013 in Starkville in a contest that was over midway through the second quarter. Jamerson Love kicked off the scoring with a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown. The Bulldogs eventually moved ahead 10-0 before Troy scored its lone touchdown of the contest.
Mississippi State ran away and hid with five touchdowns in the second quarter. Fans attending this game should expect to see much of the same as the Trojans come in off of a losing record and face the challenge of replacing long time coach Larry Blakeney.
The 2013 game did have a bit of excitement as Dak Prescott and Jameon Lewis both ran, caught and threw a touchdown in the contest. Given that Prescott might be in the middle of a Heisman run by this point of the season, the Bulldogs might look to throw in some gimmick plays to give Prescott footage for a Heisman reel.
