The Bulldog soccer squad will start its season on August 15 in an exhibition match against Memphis at 7pm at the MSU Soccer Field.
A victory by the United States would give the team three Women's World Cup championships. Currently, the United States and Germany lead the pack with two championships each. A victory by Japan would give the squad its second championship.
The United States and Japan met in the final of the 2011 Women's World Cup. The teams played to a 2-2 score, but Japan claimed the Cup by winning the penalty shootout 3-1. The match will be the first championship to feature a rematch of the previous championship.
