After a wild weekend featuring the NFL Draft and a huge baseball series against Auburn, the recruiting world is heating back up.

Tupelo’s Jett Johnson announced his commitment to Mississippi State over Twitter on Monday night:

247Sports lists Johnson at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, providing solid size and a great frame to build on once he enters the conditioning program in Starkville. The upcoming senior ranks as the 26th best Inside Linebacker in America according to 247Sports’ own rankings. The 3-star has been expected to announce his pledge to the Bulldogs and is a great addition to the recruiting class.

On film, the Tupelo linebacker shows great instincts as soon as the ball is snapped and has the intelligence and the awareness to track down a play before it gets a chance to start. He flashes athleticism and play-making ability that the coaches will absolutely love to work on as Johnson continues to mold into a collegiate defender. Over the course of his junior season for the Golden Wave, Johnson recorded 119 tackles and two interceptions.

Johnson is Mississippi State’s seventh commitment of the current recruiting cycle and chose the Bulldogs over reported offers from Ole Miss, Louisville, and Memphis; Brett Elliott is his primary recruiter and has done a great job to land a top 20 prospect in the Magnolia State.
