Last week we said Monday’s were for RANTS. This Monday is built for BLESSINGS after the 23-9 victory of the Auburn Tigers.
I’ve got my fair share of blessings this week and here they are:
- The Mississippi State defense is one of the best in the SEC... if not the BEST.
This defense can stop anyone (excluding Tua Tagovailoa). Montez Sweat, Jefferey Simmons, Braxton Hoyett, Gerri Green, and many others on that defense are a force to be reckoned with. Also, those “poor defensive backs” are not so poor. It’s been a while since Mississippi State’s pass defense has been this good. Sure, there are some ways the defense can improve, but wow they’re good.
- #AlwaysRunNeverPass
Thank you Joe Moorhead. He put his pride away and ran the ball. Obviously, Moorhead still had his stamp on the offense. The way he would bring the running back in motion just about every play worked. He didn’t stop doing it either. I’m always for continuing to do something that works. Shoutout to former managing editor, Justin Strawn, creator of #AlwaysRunNeverPass. 57 rush attempts. 17 pass attempts. Keep it coming.
- Kylin Hill is a SOPHOMORE!
This kid runs with intensity every play and Mississippi State has him for at least another year. If he continues to run as hard as he did Saturday night and if Joe Moorhead continues to give him 20+ carries a game, then he will finish the year with over 1,000 yards.
- Nick Fitzgerald is a GREAT running quarterback.
Congratulations to Nick Fitzgerald for being the SEC’s leading quarterback in rushing yards. That was fun watching Fitzgerald do what he does best. He’s great at running the football. Sure, he needs to work on a couple problems with reading when to keep the ball and when to hand it off, but the fifth year senior can run the ball.
- Davis Wade Stadium has become one of the toughest places to play.
That stadium was bumping Saturday night. Maybe we just haven’t experienced a great game lately, but it was LIVE! Texas A&M, La Tech, and Arkansas will have a difficult time trying to pull off wins in Davis Wade this year.
This team can hang with anyone besides Alabama (they’re on a new level). It’s going to be fun to watch this team the rest of this season... if they keep running the football.
