Proof That Joe Moorhead Knows Recruiting

Moorhead has proven he can recruit much better than Mullen

Coach Joe Moorhead entered the Bulldog Family on November 29, 2017 and since then has wasted no time introducing his new style. His style is obviously much different than the former coach, Dan Mullen. Many will already say his style is better than Mullen’s and that, in my opinion, is to be determined.

But there is one specific aspect of their styles that he has clearly proven he is better than Mullen at and that’s RECRUITING.

Moorhead has wasted no time going after the guys he wants and the guys Mississippi State football needs.

Here is a list of all of the signees that he signed during this year’s National Signing Day:

Cameron Gardner: 3-star WR out of Starkville High School in Starkville, MS.

La’Damian Webb: 3-star RB out of Beauregard High School is Opelika, AL.

Jaden Crumedy: 4-star DL out of Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, MS.

Brad Cumbest: 3-star TE out of East Central High School in Hurley, MS.

Marcus Murphy: 4-star ATH out of West Point High School in West Point, MS.

Malik Heath: 4-star WR out Callaway High School in Jackson, MS.

Kwatrivous Johnson: 4-star OL out of Greenwood High School in Greenwood, MS.

Stephen Guidry: #1 Juco player (WR) in the country out of Hinds Community College in Raymond, MS.

Devon Robinson: 3-star DL out of Whitehaven High School in Memphis, TN.

Shawn Preston: 3-star DB out of St. James High School in St. James, LA.

Devonta Jason: 4-star WR out of Landry-Walker High School in New Orleans, LA.

Jalen Mayden: 3-star QB out of Sachse High School in Sachse, TX.

Sh’mar Kilby-Lane: 4-star LB out of Co-Lin Community College (originally went to Florida State out of high school) in Copiah, MS.

Aside from the signees he nailed down, Moorhead has worked extremely hard to nail down some 2019 commits over the last couple months.

Here is a list of the 2019 recruits that Joe Moorhead has received commitments from (list is from https://247sports.com/college/mississippi-state/Season/2019-Football/Commits I very well could’ve left a few out):

Charles Moore: Louisville High (Louisville, MS) SDE 6-4 268

Ani Izuchukwu: Davidson Academy (Nashville, TN) WDE 6-4 230

Jarrian Jones: Northwest Rankin (Flowood, MS) S 6-1 185

De’Monte Russell: Provine (Jackson, MS) WDE 6-4 216

Garrett Shrader: Charlotte Christian (Charlotte, NC) DUAL 6-4.5 200

Brandon Cunningham: St. Martin (Ocean Springs, MS) OT 6-5 300

Quinton Torbor: Destrehan (Destrehan, LA) WR 6-2 182

Kyziah Pruitt: Noxubee County (Macon, MS) WR 5-11 185

Darius Washington: West Florida Tech (Pensacola, FL) OT 6-4 285

DJ James: Spanish Fort (Spanish Fort, AL) CB 6-0 170

Jack Harris: Oak Grove (Hattiesburg, MS) SDE 6-2 227

Javeious Purvis: Pelahatchie Attendance Center (Pelahatchie, MS) S 6-2 195

Montravious Richardson: Georgia Military College (Milledgeville, GA) OT 6-7 320

I realize that not all of the guys are destined to sign with Mississippi State, but for Moorhead to come in and immediately get to work to this extent is highly impressive.

As of today Mississippi State ranks #10 in the nation in 2019 recruiting.
