Tampa Bay Rays Select MSU’s Colby White

STARKVILLE, Miss. — The Tampa Bay Rays have selected Mississippi State junior right-hander Colby White with the 188th overall pick in the 2019 first-year player draft Tuesday afternoon.

White, a native of Foxworth, Mississippi, has appeared in 25 games as a reliever in his first year with the Diamond Dawgs. He has pitched 24 23 innings, where he as earned a 3-1 record with a 3.28 ERA. His 45 strikeouts this year ranks fifth on the team.

He could ultimately decide to return to MSU for his senior season next year.

White becomes the third MSU player drafted this year after left-hander Ethan Small was selected by the Brewers in the first round on Monday and outfielder Jake Mangum was selected 118th overall by the Mets on Tuesday.
