Evaluating the Mississippi State 2020 Recruiting Class: Defensive End Benjamin Key

NCAA Football: Music City Bowl-Mississippi State vs Louisville Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Emphasis is always placed on recruiting the defensive side of the ball, and for the 2020 class the Mississippi State Bulldogs recruited several prominent defensive linemen. Benjamin Key is one of those impressive defensive line commits that could have a big impact on the defensive side of the ball next season. The defense will be vital for Mike Leach and the Bulldogs this season as he looks to light up the SEC with his explosive offenses.

Benjamin Key is a former rugby that has the ability to turn into a fierce defensive tackle. Key’s talent was thought of highly enough by several other college teams that were recruiting Key including Arizona, Oregon State, and Oregon to name a few. Key’s quickness and ability to get into the offensive backfield is what really stands out when watching the tape. Key was an impressive figure for East Los Angeles College where he racked up 37 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 sacks.

Key is going to be an intriguing figure to watch on the defensive side of the ball, during the spring and summer practices. Key has the potential to earn some playing time next season for the Bulldogs and I would expect to see some time along the defensive front as the season progresses. Key was three-star rated recruit by most services and I would expect him to play up to his potential and become a threat for opposing SEC offenses. Spring practice is just around the corner and recruiting never ends. Until next time Bulldogs’ fans.
