Mississippi State has been a defensive powerhouse with a pipeline of linebackers, and 2020’s edition of Bulldogs shall be no different.
Versatility is critical in today’s game. At 6-foot-1, 250 pounds, Thompson has been a disruption everywhere on the field. Thompson rounded out his junior campaign with 84 total tackles, which included a season-high 13 at Tennessee.
But it was Thompson’s sophomore season that was his best. He posted 87 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and two interceptions. Thompson’s skill set allows him to set the edge, get to the quarterback, or drop back in coverage when needed.
Coach Mike Leach will use Thompson to the best of his ability, ultimately relying on him galvanize the Bulldogs defense. SEC offenses are only getting faster, as Thompson’s speed will need to be a factor. Thompson’s combination of experience and talent should elevate his stature, becoming one of the nation’s top linebackers, particularly within the SEC.
