Mississippi State Lands Cornerback Brendan Toles

NCAA Football: Cheez-It Bowl-Air Force vs Washington State Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

While the college football season has been in a limbo of sorts, the recruiting season proceeds like business as usual. Today the Bulldogs landed cornerback Brendan Toles. Recruiting is the lifeblood of college football and the 2021 class is off to a strong start for Mike Leach and his staff. We are going to take a look at the newest Bulldog commit and start to evaluate all 15 commits for the class of 2021.

Mike Leach and his staff have made recruiting Mississippi a top priority and landing Toles out of Oxford is a nice snag for the Bulldogs. Toles give the Bulldogs tremendous versatility, having played the cornerback and wide receiver position for Lafayette High School. Toles will fit nicely into the 3-3-5 defensive scheme that the Bulldogs will have this season. Last season, Toles was impressive on the defensive side of the ball for Lafayette High School. Toles racked up 52 tackles, one interception, and nine pass break ups. From the wide receiver position, Toles has eight receptions for 141 yards and two touchdowns. Toles has good speed and competes in track and field events as well as football.

Mississippi State is gaining a reputation for producing quality defensive back and landing an athlete Toles will give Bulldogs’ fans plenty to get excited about in the future. With Mississippi State shifting to the 3-3-5, the opportunity is going to be there for athletes that are versatile and that have been playing on both sides of the ball. Recruits were going to come to play offense for Mike Leach, now what we are seeing is that the recruiting on the defensive side of the ball is going to get plenty of attention from this staff as well.

I look forward to examining each commit and watching the tape. Football season is coming and right now everyone can use it.
