Player to Watch
Aliyah Matharu
As she has been a spark off the bench, Matharu continues to put up points in key moments. Having posted 16 in Sunday’s victory over the rival Rebels, Matharu should see more minutes tonight.
Matharu is averaging 10.5 points per game. While she is a threat from anywhere on the floor, Matharu is most lethal from distance. She shot 4-5 from beyond the arc against Ole Miss. Expect her to post similar numbers.
Defensively, Matharu will have to shut down Alabama guard Jordan Lewis. Like Matharu, Lewis is a pure scorer with speed and vision. Though she is not the distance shooter Matharu is, Lewis can get through the lane at will.
While on the floor, look for Matharu to keep Lewis out of the paint and make a play on defense. Tonight’s game should be close, as its outcome will be decided by the matchup between Matharu and Lewis.
Prediction
Mississippi State edges Alabama 85-78
