Mississippi State men’s basketball to take on Colorado State in Basketball Hall of Fame Classic

FORT WORTH, Texas — The Mississippi State men’s basketball team returns to action Saturday when it takes on Colorado State at 1 p.m. CT inside Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Classic. The game will be televised by ESPNU.

The Bulldogs (6-2) are coming off an 81-76 loss to Minnesota on Sunday despite a career-high 26 points from junior guard Iverson Molinar. He also had six assists and five rebounds. Graduate forward Garrison Brooks recorded his first double-double as a Bulldog with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Molinar leads MSU with 17.3 points and 4.9 assists per game, while redshirt junior forward Tolu Smith is averaging 13.3 points and 8.3 rebounds. Brooks is putting up 11 points and 7.4 rebounds per game and sophomore guard Shakeel Moore is putting up 10.5 points per game to give the Bulldogs four double-digit scorers.

The Rams (9-0) are coming off a 74-58 win over Saint Mary’s (Calif.) last Saturday.

Colorado State is 10th in the nation in scoring, averaging 85.3 points per game. Junior forward David Roddy and junior guards Isaiah Stevens and John Tonje are all scoring in double figures. Roddy leads the way 20.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, while Stevens is averaging 14.8 points and seven assists a game and Tonje is averaging 12.7 points.

Saturday’s game will mark the second meeting between the Bulldogs and Rams on the hardwood. MSU and Colorado State met in the first round of the 1999 National Invitation Tournament where the Bulldogs fell 69-56.
