No. 6 Mississippi State baseball hosts Southern on Tuesday

First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.

STARKVILLE, Miss. — The No. 6 Mississippi State baseball team will play host to the Southern Jaguars on Tuesday at Dudy Noble Field. The game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT and will be streaming on SEC Network+.

The Bulldogs (20-7, 5-4 SEC) are coming off a sweep over Southeastern Conference foe Kentucky last week. The MSU pitching staff fanned 10-plus batters in all three games and has now recorded double-digit strikeouts in 22 of 27 games.

MSU’s 13.2 strikeouts per nine innings ranks No. 1 in the nation, while its 2.83 team ERA ranks eighth in the nation.

Offensively, the Bulldogs are led by senior Tanner Allen with a .323 batting average, 32 hits and 27 runs scored. Junior Luke Hancock drove in five RBIs over the weekend and is batting .272 overall with a team-high 28 RBIs and seven home runs. Sophomore Kamren James is batting .284 with 29 hits and 26 RBIs.

The Jaguars come in with a 10-14 record overall and an 8-4 record in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. They took one of three games at Texas Southern over the weekend.

Sophomore O’Neill Burgos leads Southern with a .323 batting average, 30 hits and 19 runs scored. As a team, the Jaguars are ranked 20th in the nation in stolen bases per game at 1.79, while the 43 team stolen bases rank 13th nationally.

Tuesday’s meeting will be the third on the diamond for MSU and Southern. The Bulldogs won both previous meetings.
