STARKVILLE, Miss. — The No. 6 Mississippi State baseball team wraps up its home portion of the 2021 regular season on Tuesday when it hosts the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at 6:30 p.m. CT at Dudy Noble Field. The game will be streaming on SEC Network+.
The Bulldogs (36-13, 17-10 SEC) are coming off a series loss to Missouri over the weekend. MSU won the first game 5-4 before dropping the second game 7-6. In the rubber game, MSU fell 16-8.
The senior duo of Tanner Allen and Rowdey Jordan continue to lead the MSU offense. Allen is batting .388 with 73 hits, 52 runs and 48 RBIs, while Jordan is batting .315 with 58 hits, 54 runs and 33 RBIs.
The Bulldog pitching staff leads the nation with 624 strikeouts in 442 1⁄3 innings and is the only pitching staff with at least 600 strikeouts. Junior pitcher Parker Stinnett is set to make his first start on the mound in his MSU career. He owns a 1.88 ERA and has struck out 23 batters in 14 1⁄3 innings.
The Gamecocks (24-25, 14-13 OVC) enter the contest after dropping two of three games against Austin Peay State University over the weekend.
Jacksonville State is led by senior Alex Webb, who is hitting .312 with 64 hits, 50 RBIs, 34 runs and nine home runs. Redshirt junior Alex Carignan is batting .378 with 45 hits, 24 runs and 23 RBIs in 33 games played.
Tuesday’s meeting will be the 13th for the Bulldogs and Gamecocks on the diamond. MSU owns an 11-1 edge in the all-time series.
