Dak Prescott Could Use Some Reps This Week

I really don't expect much competition from South Alabama tonight. With the way the Troy game went last week (a kick is the britches), being at home and the Jaguars' talent level, I'm only expecting a little more resistant than what Jackson State gave. With that said, it should be a good game to get Dak Prescott some reps before we get into the teeth of the SEC schedule.

Prescott was able to get in the first two games, but did not appear vs. Troy. Against Auburn he came in for a couple of rushes including a 3rd down conversion in what amounted to a wildcat role. His only significant playing time was in the first game where he was 1 of 4 for 8 yards and ran it twice for 6 yards and a touchdown.

He did get a couple of throws in, but nothing major. I think this would be an excellent opportunity for him to get his arm stretched out a bit provided MSU is up comfortably in the 2nd half. I'd actually like to see Dak play most of the game once State gets a decent lead, perhaps three touchdowns and in the 2nd quarter. Maybe even if Mullen is not ready to sit Russell for the night, just get Prescott in with the 1st string and let him toss it around some.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Sometimes you just have to think that way. If Russell were to go down for any period of time it would at least be nice to know Prescott has some experience. When Tyler was a redshirt freshman he entered the first game vs. Memphis and was 13 of 16 for 256 yards and 4 touchdowns. Of course, those stats were not indicative of his ability at the time because Memphis was horrible, but at least he got some throws under his belt.

It would be nice for Dak Prescott to at least get 10-12 passes thrown vs. South Alabama. It would be great if he could throw for a TD, just to get that confidence that he can do it.
