National Signing Day 2013: Jahmere Irvin-Sills commits to MSU, will sign with Bulldogs

A late addition to the 2013 signing class, Jahmere Irvin-Sills has committed to Mississippi State, and will sign with the Bulldogs.

3-star Elkton, Maryland cornerback Jahmere Irvin-Sills has committed to play for Mississippi State, reports John Farley of CowbellClang.com.

The talented cornerback out of Eastern Christian Academy becomes a late addition to the 2013 class. He has committed, and will sign with MSU soon. He chose MSU over Auburn and West Virginia, among others. Irvin-Sills signature will be the 21st of the 2013 class for MSU. State signed 16 players today, and 4 enrolled early in January.

Jahmere's recruitment by MSU has been an interesting one to follow since the Bulldogs got involved in January. Irvin-Sills was initially committed to Auburn, but decommitted after Gene Chizik was fired last year. When he reopened his recruitment, MSU pursued him, and Jahmere visited on January 11th. Although he reportedly had a great visit, he did not give his pledge to MSU at that time. It's unclear as to the circumstances, but it appears that MSU may have asked him to hold off on a decision at that time. State was still in hot pursuit of Mackensie and Mackenro Alexander, and the potential signing of both brothers would have put MSU tight with spots for this class. However, as signing day unfolded today, the Alexanders opted for Clemson and Auburn respectively, and a spot opened up for Irvin-Sills.

With the departure of Corey Broomfield, Johnthan Banks, and Darius Slay from MSU's defensive backfield, it will be good to add in another defensive back to this class. State has already signed CB Tolando Cleveland and S Justin Cox in this class. Irvin-Sills will now join those two in MSU's class of defensive backs for 2013.

I have to say that I'm glad to see Irvin-Sills get this opportunity. After his visit, it seemed like he was ready to be a Bulldog, but tight spots might prevent him from doing so at that time. With the way things unfolded today, Irvin-Sills will now get a chance to be a part of this class, and that's certainly great to see.

With JE-S aboard, MSU's lone remaining target for the 2013 class is Hutchinson C.C. DT Toby Johnson. Johnson is scheduled to visit Starkville on February 15th, and will sign on February 19th. Johnson is considering MSU, Auburn, Georgia, and Oklahoma.
