Gerri Green tweeted it out last night. He simply stated, "Making my decision soon." Then today around noon he tweeted again, this one symbolizing his commitment to MSU, and it read, "#HAILSTATE."
The commitment of Gerri Green has been a long time coming for MSU. I have Green rated as my number three prospect in Mississippi and my Mississippi top 25 prospects from May. When I update that list, expect Green to move up to at least number two and I have a serious dilemma on my hands to decide who will take that top spot, Green or Rod Taylor.
Although Green was long considered an MSU lean, that did not stop him from taking in visits and really being responsible about the recruiting process. Green held offers from Ole Miss, Tennessee, Arkansas, Auburn, Vanderbilt, among others.
As far as rankings go, it appears that Rivals and 247 still need to evaluate him a bit more as they both have him ranked a three star. 247 ranks Green as an athlete and calls him the 40th best at the position in the country. Rivals does not have him ranked at his position. Scout ranks him as a four star and 24th best outside linebacker in the country. I lean towards the four star ranking scout has him listed at and tend to believe 247 and Rivals will eventually give him another star, as well.
Green is a guy that I have seen in person and a guy that could be the most athletic prospect in the state of Mississippi for the 2014 class. He's a 6-5 210 outside linebacker prospect that could potentially end up at defensive end if he were to outgrow outside linebacker. However, as an outside linebacker he brings a lot of range to the position. He is good in coverage and can get into the backfield to stop the run or rush the passer as well. He needs to strengthen his upper body, but his quickness, agility and instincts at the linebacker position will make it hard for him not to be one heck of a player on the next level. MSU got a good one today.
