From the Hail State article, "Following a perfect weekend to move its overall record to 10-0, Mississippi State came in at No. 23 in this week’s ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll. This marks the highest ranking for the Bulldogs in this poll since April 2008 when MSU was tied for 23rd. State most recently cracked the Top 25 in the Week 6 poll (25) during the 2015 season. MSU has already collected two wins over 2015 NCAA Tournament teams this season, including a 4-2 comeback win at then No. 23 South Alabama in eight innings Thursday night. The Bulldogs have outscored opponents 65-15 thus far in 2016 with help from a pitching staff that has a 0.51 earned run average that ranks third in the nation."
The ladies also just missed the cut in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches with 43 votes…number 25 Cal had 71 votes. However that poll is skewed in my opinion as #21 Minn has a 5-4 record and UCF sits at #22 with a 4-7 record. Both records IMHO are not good enough to keep a team in the top 25 of a poll when you have a 10-0 program that knocked South Alabama from the rankings and also beat another tourney team from last year.
"On deck for the Bulldogs is four games in three days in Gulfport, Mississippi as part of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic. The Bulldogs will open on Friday, Feb. 26 against McNeese State at 8 p.m. CT from the Gulfport Sportsplex." They will also face Baylor and Incarnate Word in the MCGC.
