It should be another great year of high school football in the state, and it all gets started tonight with Madison Central vs. Brandon. Here are a few of our writer's rankings of the top teams with some thoughts from JLGrindin at the end.
Winstoncountrysfinest gave us his top 5:

- Bassfield
- South Panola

JL Grindin's top 5 plus his thoughts:
- Olive Branch
- Brandon
- South Panola
- Louisville
- Bassfield
Olive Branch will boast a strong defense that features Alfred Dickens and Fred Walls and an offensive unity that should be equally as good with the addition of a talented transfer quarterback in Ross Trail.
Brandon appeared in the 6A State finals last season and they return the quarterback that got them there in Gardner Minshew. With Fletcher Adams anchoring a strong defense expect the Bulldogs to again be near the top of the 6A classification.
For South Panola, the reigning 6A champions, this year should see a more productive offensive unit with the return of quarterback Rip Kirk and the emergence of rising junior running back Darrell Henderson. The Tiger defense should again be one of the top units in the state.
Louisville is a team that has one of the top signal callers in the state in Wyatt Roberts and one of the best rising juniors in the state in receiver Dontea Jones. The Wildcat defense is full of athletes and it all starts with senior Jeremy Sangster. Louisville recently dismantled potential 5A contenders in West Point in a jamboree game 35-14.
Bassfield is just a class 2A school, but they will boast as much talent this season as any team in the state. It all starts with twins AJ and CJ Moore(Ole Miss commits). Then there's rising junior Jamal Peters(FSU, LSU, MSU and OM offers). Even further Curtis Mikell and Cornell Armstrong are Southern Miss commits. Each player named will be likely counted on to play on the offensive and defensive side of the ball this season.
