NCAA Rule Book and why Clausell's TD did not count.
If this was explained during the game, sorry for doubling up. I wouldn't know because I was there cheering crazy when it happened, but for those wondering why Blaine Clausell's touchdown did not count, the NCAA rule book is pretty simple on this matter. Rule 7, Section 1, Article 4 expressly prohibits interior linemen wearing numbers 50-79 from lining up as eligible receivers except in an obvious kicking situation. With the pass being a forward pass, Clausell was automatically ineligible to catch it. However, if it had been a backward pass, this would be a different story. If you look at where Clausell set up for the throwback, he was trying to get behind Prescott. The pass was just too far ahead. At any rate, who knew the big guys for MSU have such good hands. That's a second nice looking snag after Preston Smith's touchdown. And if all of this turns out to be wrong, well, that is why I am not an NCAA official.
