Weather Forces Changes to Sunday Mississippi State Baseball Schedule

Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY Sports

The Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Marshall Thundering Herd almost dodged the weather. Since they didn't, that means more baseball Sunday.

The threat of heavy rain over the weekend finally caught up to the Mississippi State Bulldogs and their baseball schedule Saturday as their game against the Marshall Thundering Herd had to be suspended in the bottom of the fifth inning Saturday in Starkville.

That suspension of play came immediately after Brent Rooker belted a two-run homer to put Mississippi State ahead 3-1.

Marshall's D.J. Gee put the Thundering Herd ahead 1-0 with a solo shot in the top of the second.  The Bulldogs tied the game on a double down the right field line by Cody Brown.

Rooker's two-run bomb to left field capped off an extraordinary day which saw him tally seven total RBIs.  In the day's first contest against Alabama A&M;, the redshirt freshman had a two-run single in a nine-run second inning for Mississippi State, a leadoff homer in the sixth, and a two-RBI double in the seventh inning.

Sunday's action, originally slated to start at noon, will now start at 11am in a contest between Alabama A&M; and Marshall.  Thirty-five minutes after the conclusion of that contest, Mississippi State and Marshall will resume their suspended contest.  The Bulldogs and Alabama A&M; will then play their regularly scheduled contest, slated for a 4:30pm start.

The Mississippi State-Alabama A&M; game will be broadcast on SEC Network +.  As of the publishing of this post, there is no word as to whether or not the network will pick up the conclusion of the Mississippi State-Marshall matchup.
