MSU Annihilates South Carolina 13-2 in Series Opener

After five straight horrendous offensive performances, the Diamond Dawgs scored 13 runs and drilled the #13 South Carolina Gamecocks.

Mississippi State University

The Bulldogs only scored 8 runs in their previous five games but MSU's bats finally woke up in the first of three games against South Carolina, driving in 13 runs and collecting 12 base hits. MSU had their best offensive performance in SEC play and their first in-conference series opening win of the season in a game that was nationally televised on ESPNU.

South Carolina starting pitcher Will Crowe was buried from the start, giving up 8 runs in just 2.2 innings. MSU's Lucas Laster threw his second complete game of the season, racking up 8 strikeouts, matching his career high. Laster also allowed only 1 walk and gave up 8 hits.

Cody Brown, John Holland, and Ryan Gridley all had three hits a piece as a large part of MSU's 12 hit total. The monster offensive performance also included 6 doubles, a season high for the team. Last night was so kind to the Bulldogs, they were even featured on Sportscenter's Top 10 plays after Cody Brown made this beautiful catch over the left field wall to collect the final out of the game and secure a 13-2 victory for the Bulldogs:

Hopefully MSU can keep up the good work when they face South Carolina again at 3 PM this afternoon.
