Maroon Weather Forecast: Southern Miss

The Dawgs will need to stay hydrated for this hot and sticky matchup in Hattiesburg!

Spruce Derden-USA TODAY Sports

The first game of the 2015 football season is nearly upon us, Hail State Nation! The Mississippi State Bulldogs will be down in Hattiesburg to take on the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. The wide receivers will be thankful because the air will be really sticky come gametime.

Earlier in the day though, tailgating weather will be quite humid. Temperatures look like they’re going to jump from the low 70s to the low 90s by noon. It will stay in the 90s for most of the afternoon, but it’s going to feel really moist at the Rock. Dew point temperatures will be in the 70s for the whole afternoon, making it feel like almost 100° at around 3 PM.

The air will be cooling down as the gates open at 7 PM at M.M. Roberts Stadium. The heat index will feel in the upper 80s moving down to the upper 70s at kickoff at 9 PM. Temps will stay in the 70s throughout the game. Staying hydrated throughout the day is highly recommended for fans and players alike because of the heat and humidity.

Winds will be light throughout the game, but gusts could peak from the south at 6 MPH. Kickers shouldn’t need to worry about the breeze altering their field goals, but that also means that there won’t be any relief for the thousands of fans in the stands.

The game will be a hot and sticky one, even with the later kickoff. Hopefully, the weather will help Dak Prescott and company wrap this one up in maroon and white.
