Time To Break From Our Tendencies...

if we want to become bowl eligible. We all talk about how our offense is a little too predictable. Well I think it's time our offensive staff did something about that. I think they need to go back and look at all of our formations and the tendencies that have developed. The idea being use formations that tell a D its a pass and run the dang ball...and also use formations that say run to pass. The idea being the opposing D can never get comfy and rely on their game tape preparation. I think the D ought to do something similar as well. As it might help in getting more turn-overs by showing blitz and it really being a case of no blitz with drop back into quick throw lanes. The main point being change of pace and tendencies to throw opposing teams off of what game tape says.

I also think we need a change how we process calls from the side line and take advantage of a D that is shifting alot. So instead of lining up and letting 6-9 secs tick off before looking at the bench and then taking another 5-7 seconds to snap. You have everyone at the ready so that our QB can use a series of code words for the snap to catch the D mid shift...and go opposite of the shift with the option play. I would also insert plays that the snap happens prior to the O line being in a 3 point stance. Most D's are relaxed and waiting on the opposing teams line to go down into stance. Also when rushing the ball is working in chunks, go high tempo and allow the least amount of time between plays. One it means the other D has a hard time substituting players and 2 it cuts down on the rest time they get between plays. The last adjustment I would make is for short yardage plays and goal line situations. I would put a big O lineman or D lineman who is 3rd string into the backfield to give the appearance of having a run play with a lead behemoth. I then would go opposite of the side the behemoth is lined up on with a run/pass option. This puts alot of pressure on a D to react...then in the 4th Qtr when needed you line up again in this formation and run like you are set up to...by that point the D will shift to stop it going to the opposite side and get burned again. The whole point to this being keeping the other team off balance and unprepared for what might happen next.
