How Good is the MSU secondary?

As you might be aware MSU is currently last in the SEC in Passing Yards giving up 319 yds/game. However today I have come to tell you that this number is skewed and I have evidence. Lets first look at 2 out of 3 of MSUs nonconference opponents this season and find how many passing yards they allowed to them:

Southern Mississippi: 212 Yards

South Alabama: 288 Yards

As you can see these numbers aren't terrible. MSU was able to control both South Alabama and Southern Mississippi's passing game without too much of a problem. Now lets look at UAB:

UAB: 435 Yards

Now many MSU fans claim that if you take away 4 plays in this game that the stats would look different. The reason the secondary was beat these 4 times was because MSU thought that UAB could only run the ball and not pass as they shown in their dominant win against Troy the previous week. So MSU was not prepared to defend the pass. SO here are the stats after taking away 3 of UAB'S long Touchdown passes and 1 long pass play:

UAB(without 4 plays): 138

Did you read that correctly? Thats right in 4 plays MSU allowed 297 yards. As you can see that number is skewed.

Now lets take a look at the LSU game.

LSU: 341

Again this number is skewed as well. Many MSU fans say that besides the last 5 minutes when State had their 2nd string against LSU that they gave up a lot more yards. Well I took away every passing yard that LSU had after MSU scored their final Field Goal(LSU only had 1 yard passing between this and the final Brandon Harris Drives). SO lets take a look at their passing yards if we take away their guys against our 2nd string.

LSU 200

Well that sure looks different doesn't it? You see what I mean by Skewed stats? Now lets take a look at MSUs secondary's new Avg with these updated figures:

MSUs Passing Yds allowed(subtracting UAB Big Plays and LSUs final 5 mins): 209.5 per game

Well that looks different doesn't it? From 319? And according to SDS that would put MSU 6th in the SEC in passing yards allowed.

As you can see the MSU secondary numbers are skewed and I went through each of MSU'S 4 games to prove it. Leave a comment on your thoughts:
