Mississippi State Bulldogs Roll Past the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils 89-68

Spruce Derden-USA TODAY Sports

The Mississippi State Bulldogs picked up their second win of the season with a never-in-doubt victory over Mississippi Valley State Monday.

So far, the new season has been kind to Mississippi State as the Bulldogs picked up their second win in as many games with a 89-68 victory over the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils Monday night at the Humphrey Coliseum in Starkville.

As was the case against Western Carolina, two big men led the way for Mississippi State as Gavin Ware scored 19 and Roquez Johnson scored a team-high 20 in the run away victory.

The Bulldogs, who never trailed in the contest, opened up a 16-point lead eight minutes into the game at 29-13, and they continued to expand that lead in the first half, eventually heading to the locker room up 58-33.

The Bulldogs proved hot from the field, just under 60% of their shots on 31-52 shooting in the contest. While the team struggled a bit behind the three-point line (4-14), the team went over 70% (23-32) from the charity stripe.

Also in double figures for Mississippi State were Fred Thomas (17), Trivante Bloodman (11), and Travis Daniels (10).

The Bulldogs also pulled down 47 rebounds, led by Ware's eight, to 25 for the Delta Devils (0-2).

Jordan Washington led Mississippi Valley State with 18 points.

The Bulldogs return to action with a noon tip Saturday against the Utah State Aggies (2-0), who take on the Santa Clara Broncos Wednesday before making the trip to Starkville.
