Mississippi State releases Week 1 Depth Chart

We know who will be starting at what position for the Bulldogs against South Alabama. Well, we know most of them any way.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs have announced their depth chart for the first game of the season. We know who will start for most of the positions. Here is the tweet the team sent out this morning.

You’ll notice there is a key phrase at the one position everyone wants to know about, and that is the word OR when listing the quarterbacks. We still don’t know who the starter at QB is, but it is expected to have a little more clarity when Dan Mullen conducts his press conference today at 1 p.m.

So what else caught my eye? There were a few things.

First, Nick James is not listed. He has been the assumed starter for the Nose Tackle spot. This probably means he will be suspended for the game after the events of this past weekend.

Another interesting nugget is there is another OR for Left Tackle on offense. Martinas Rankin was the highest rated JUCO offensive lineman in his class and he hasn’t been able to separate from Elgton Jenkins. I don’t know if that means Jenkins is great or if Rankin is disappointing.

Looking at Running Back, Brandon Holloway is the starter. That isn’t surprising. Ashton Shumpert as the second string over Aeris Williams is.

Looking at Linebacker, there were a few things that caught my eye, and they all revolve around Gerri Green. Most assumed he would be playing Viper, but he isn’t listed there. Jonathan Calvin is listed with true freshman Marquiss Spencer as the backup. Gerri Green is listed at Weakside linebacker with an OR between him and Leo Lewis.

Everything else looked pretty normal. But I could have missed something. Let us know what you think of this depth chart in the comments section.
