In their most dominant performance of the year, Mississippi State completely rolled over St. Louis in the Corpus Christi Classic Semifinal to improve to 5-0 on the season.
After exploding on offense to begin the game, hitting on eleven of their first twelve shots, State led by ten at half time. The Billikens climbed back within seven in the opening moments of the second half before the Bulldogs ran away to a 29 point lead in the closing minutes.
Travis Daniels was the star of the game, scoring a game high 21 points and collecting 6 rebounds. Along with Daniels' performance the Bulldogs controlled all phases of the contest, hitting on 56% of their shots, out rebounding the Billikens 39-24, and hitting on 8 three point shots.
While the team did not get to the charity stripe as often in this game, they continued their success still shooting for 78% at the free throw line. On the other side, St. Louis struggled to find the net in all phases of the game. the Billikens hit on only 36% of their field goal attempts and 39% of their free throw attempts.
Despite St. Louis being in a rebuilding year, this was a huge victory for Coach Rick Ray and the Bulldogs over a team that had made the NCAA tournament three consecutive seasons. After defeating Bradley in the other semifinal, TCU awaits the Bulldogs for the Championship game Saturday night. The game also provides an opportunity for revenge against the Horned Frogs, who beat State at the Hump last season 71-61.
