Thoughts on the upcoming football season
With us writing all these game previews, position previews, etc. here at For Whom the Cowbell Tolls, we also want to know: what are your thoughts on this upcoming season? We are approaching the dreaded month of August: where football is so close you can taste it, but it's not quite here and oh by the way it's still 10000000 degrees outside. So lets start up a thread on expectations this season. It can be your expectations for the whole season, a single game, what you expect out of an individual player this year, anything really. Just come by here and share your thoughts with us.

GO STATE
I’m a professor at State, and I’m hopeful that we can have a better record than last year, either 9-3 or 10-2 for the regular season, but that will require some serious wins. I’m really looking forward to the LSU game, where i expect these two teams to be well matched, and I’m hoping the home field advantage can give us the win. If we’re 3-0 after LSU, we’ll be in great shape, but beating Georgia, South Carolina, Arkansas, and Alabama will be very difficult. I don’t expect our defense to drop much, if at all, and I hope Relf and the offense can be more consistent and complete this year.

Our Biggest Games
I think our biggest games this year will be South Carolina and Alabama. I have seem some people say that our meeting with Bama in November could be a match between unbeaten teams, but we have a lot to go through before we get there. I am also not sure how we will play at linebacker, but I think Brandon Maye brings some serious talent to our team this year.

9-3 and a bowl win for double digits
Mullen has built a solid team to this point. He’s got the tools necessary to keep the team rising. The next step is to belong in the conversation for the West throughout the season. Should expect to win against AU, and if you go 3-0 with win over LSU, we will have proven early that we can play with any of these top SEC teams. It’s time to win some games we’re not favored in and time to rock the SEC West.

7-5, not necessarily a step backward, but regression to the mean for the defense and a tough schedule don’t do the Dawgs any favors this season.
If we don't get our sauce, we ain't watching the game!

I hate making predictions
because they always turn out to be wrong. So with that in mind, I predict that State will only win two games this year.

I know what you mean Dawgfan246
Usually when I expect good things out of State (i.e. 2008), they send the season in the crapper quickly. I know it’s not going to be an easy year with the schedule we have before us, but if, and it is a HUGE if, we can beat LSU and get over that infamous hump we have only gotten over once in the last two decades, I really feel like the whole rest of the season will fall into place with the players having a higher level of confidence in themselves and their teammates. Big, rowdy Thursday night crowd, ESPN, I feel like this is the year we win the big game at home, start off 2-1 and win another 8-9 games on the way to a Cotton Bowl berth and $150 tickets to sit in the bleeders seats.
